Mike J. Bajnok 1927-2026

AUSTINTOWN — Mike Joseph Bajnok, age 98, entered into eternal rest with family at his bedside Friday, March 27, 2026, at Aventura Humility House, Austintown.

On July 2, 1927, in Newton Falls, Mike was born to Michael and Anna Stolicny Bajnok, immigrants from Czechoslovakia.

Mike attended Newton Falls Schools and was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, serving from 1948-1952.

Once completing carpentry school and apprenticeship, Mike joined the Carpenter & Joiners Union Local 171 in 1946.

He retired from Jack Gibson Construction in 1989, after a fulfilling career as a carpenter. Proficient in his trade, Mike himself built two homes within which his family resided.

A devout Catholic, Mike was a lifelong member of Sts. Mary & Joseph Church in Newton Falls. He was also a member of the First Catholic Slovak Union #618. Proud of his Slovak heritage, he visited his parents’ homeland in 1967.

Besides carpentry, Mike enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening, family holiday gatherings and listening to Sunday morning polkas on the radio. He enjoyed living next door to his late brother Joe for over 40 years.

Nearly 67 years ago, on June 13, 1959, he married Margaret T. Svagerko at St. Elizabeth Church, Campbell.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Margaret, and their four children, Michael (Stephanie) Bajnok, Dr. Thomas Bajnok (Dr. Maria Dunn), Paul Bajnok (Rachel Hrbolich) and Maria (Gilbert) Garcia. Lovingly known as “Dzedo”, he will be fondly remembered by his six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Taylor) Duncan, Audrey Adams, Kole Bajnok, Andrew Bajnok, Leah Bajnok and Noelle Garcia; and two great-grandchildren, Aria and Hunter Duncan. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph; and two infant brothers.

The family thanks caregivers, Darla, Jean, Alee, Sheena, and the entire team from Home Instead. Also, thanks to Jennifer RN and the whole team from Ohio Living Hospice.

Calling hours will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Borowski Memorial Home, Newton Falls, with the Funeral Mass to follow at 1 p.m. at St. Mary & St. Joseph Church in Newton Falls, with the Rev. Zachary Coulter as celebrant, and Rev. Carl Kish as concelebrant..

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the church for all friends and family.
