Margaret J. Gioppo 1943-2026
POLAND — Margaret “Peggy” J. Gioppo, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
She was born June 13, 1943, in Youngstown, the daughter of Frank and Margaret Ross Palazzo.
She was a 1961 East High School graduate and then attended Youngstown State University, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She graduated with a B.S. in kindergarten and elementary education. She later enrolled at Kent State University, where she received her certification to teach students with learning disabilities and severe behavioral issues.
She taught in the Youngstown and Toledo city school districts and in the Canfield local district. For several years she was employed by the Western Reserve Health Care System in their outpatient psychiatric clinic in the capacity of classroom teacher and liaison person with the local school districts.
Peggy enjoyed reading, card club and activities with her family members and friends.
She leaves her son, Nicholas and daughter-in-law Linda, of Utica, New York; and two grandchildren, Zachary (22) and Abigail (15), who brought so much joy and fun into her life. Peggy is also survived by her brother-in-law, Eugene “Jimmy” Gioppo; sisters-in-law, Brenda Gioppo and Barbara Delisio; her many wonderful nieces, nephews and godchildren; her loving and caring cousins; and many longtime friends with whom Peggy enjoyed many happy hours and fun times.
Peggy was preceded in death by her dear husband, Nicholas A. Gioppo, whom she married June 25, 1966; her parents; in-laws, Eugene and Margaret Gioppo; and two brothers-in-law, Anthony “Skip” Gioppo and Daniel Delisio.
Friends may call 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4222 South Ave., Boardman, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church in Poland.
