Karen Belik-Bathory 1946-2026

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Karen Laverne Belik-Bathory, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2026, with her family at her side.

She is survived by two daughters, Christine Zambon-O’Connor (Jeremy), and grandsons, Nicholas and Corbin O’Connor, and Nicole Zambon, and grandson, Eric Hudson; brother, Martin Belik (Palma); nephew, Nick (Allie) Belik; and many wonderful cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Ruth Vaia Belik.

Karen was a graduate of Brookfield High School (1963) and Penn State University (1992) with a registered nursing degree.

She worked in the cardiovascular ICU and retired from John XXIII Nursing Home.

She made her life in Rapid City, South Dakota, with her family, confirming her Catholic faith in 2022 and becoming very active in the church.

She answered her grandchildren with “You betcha” to follow trains, catch a game or listen to music. She loved the majestic strength of the buffalo, Aretha, reading, laughing and the travels of tomorrow. Her resilient strength and indomitable spirit were epitomized in the words of comfort from the numerous providers at the Mayo Clinic who cared for her. “She has shown us that what we think is insurmountable is not. We should not surrender easily, as a human spirit can forge amazing possibilities. Having known her has changed many of us and how we will practice moving forward.”

She will always be part of those who knew her, as we wait to be together again.

A memorial will begin with a gathering 1 to 2 p.m. April 11, 2026, in the lower hall at St. Bartholomew Church, 311 W. Ridge Ave., Sharpsville, PA 16150, with a service at 2:30 p.m.

Please RSVP for the luncheon following the service, 3 to 5 p.m., by calling / texting 757-761-8876.
