David W. Santangelo 1968-2026
YOUNGSTOWN — David W. Santangelo, 57, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
He was born March 13, 1968, in Youngstown, a son to Sallie E. Mitchell Santangelo and the late Victor Santangelo Sr.
David earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Youngstown State University in 1991 and went on to spend 27 years serving with the Youngstown Police Department. His career in law enforcement was one he took seriously and with pride, dedicating nearly three decades to protecting and serving his community before retiring on Oct. 2, 2020.
When he wasn’t working, David gravitated toward the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and hunting — whether it was deer, rabbit, squirrel or the occasional groundhog — and appreciated the quiet time that came with it. He also had a spontaneous spirit and was always up for a road trip. In his free time, he enjoyed following hockey, bowling in a league and getting out on the golf course, often sharing those moments with friends and family.
Left behind to cherish David’s memory are his beloved wife, the former Susan Kellerman, whom he married Nov. 11, 2009; his son, David Santangelo; his mother, Sallie Santangelo; and his brother, Michael (Gail) Santangelo; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Santangelo Sr., and his brother, Victor Santangelo Jr.
Per David’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation and thanks to their family, friends and neighbors, along with Patriot Home Health and Patriot Hospice (especially Jason and Heidi) for their compassionate care of David in his time of need.
Material contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation, www.als.org/donate, in his memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman. Please visit www.beckerobits.com to send the family condolences and share your memories.
