Viola Davis 1933-2026
YOUNGSTOWN — Viola Howard Davis, 92, departed this life at 1:04 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026, at Hospice House, following complications from a short illness.
She was born Oct. 10, 1933, in Albany, Georgia, the daughter of Willie and Lillie Howard, residing in the area for 73 years, coming from Albany.
Viola was employed with Wedgewood Bowling Alley, Servomation and Youngstown Tile Supply.
She was a 1951 graduate of Madison High School in Albany, Georgia.
She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church, where she served on the usher board and kitchen committee, and belonged to Buckeye Elks Lodge BPOE.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing and going to casinos.
She married Edgar Davis Sr. on March 24, 1948; he died Jan. 26, 2002.
Left to mourn her are two sons, Edgar Davis Jr. and Bobby Davis, both of Youngstown; one daughter, Ms. Elaine Davis of Youngstown; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Lillie Howard; one brother, John Howard; four sisters, Betsie Howard, Mary Lee Richardson, Anna Bell Howard and Lula Howard; and one grandson, Edgar James Davis III.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at the Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Chapel, with calling hours from 11 a.m. to noon.
Burial will take place in Tod Homestead Cemetery.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Funeral Home.
