Thomas R. Hall 1942-2026
POLAND — Thomas Richard Hall, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Thomas was born April 27, 1942, in Youngstown, a son of the late Jesse B. and Rita McDonald Hall. He graduated from Boardman High School in 1960, and, in his senior year, his classmates recognized him as the most “mechanically minded” person in the class. He later graduated from Youngstown University with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1965. While Tom was in college, he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, where he participated in the Greek sing, coming in first place. Tom and his brothers were so elated about this first-place award.
Tom started his career at BF Goodrich in Akron in the sales department until his division was sold to Themoid HBD Industries Inc., becoming the district manager and later the industrial regional sales manager before retiring in January 2004.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Austintown and sang in their choir for many years. Tom later became a member of Holy Family Church in Poland and enjoyed singing in their choir as well.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. His family was very important to him, and he enjoyed spending time with them. Tom never missed attending any events for his children as they were growing up and loved attending dance recitals and school events for his granddaughter.
In his free time, Tom enjoyed boating, fishing, air shows, shopping and family vacations to Canada, Myrtle Beach, Disney World and Williamsburg. He loved traveling, especially taking cruises with great friends to unforgettable destinations around the world. He also loved sitting as co-pilot and working on his best friend Harry’s airplane. Tom owned a 1965 Volkswagen Beetle and enjoyed going to car shows and displaying his car, where he even won a first-place award one year. He enjoyed being outdoors and took impeccable care of his yard and flowers every spring and summer. He was Mr. Fix-It and could fix just about anything. When he built his home, Tom installed a brick driveway that still stands today of more than 10,000 reconditioned bricks that he cleaned one by one. Tom was always willing to help Mary Jane make cookies, especially filling clothespins cookies and decorating sugar cookies with his daughters, and always had to have the first pecan tart fresh out of the oven.
After retiring, Tom and Mary Jane were snowbirds and enjoyed spending the winter months in Treasure Island, Florida.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 60 wonderful years, the former Mary Jane Hallas, whom he married Sept. 11, 1965; two children, Wendy Hall of Poland, and Kimberly (William) Martig of Boardman; and a granddaughter, Hannah Balash of Washington, D.C.
Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, John Jack and Noreen Hall.
