Russell G. Snowberger 1938-2026
NEWTON FALLS — Russell “Russ” Glenn Snowberger, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026.
Born Feb. 26, 1938, to the late Charles and Helen Snowberger, Russ grew up in Brady Lake and graduated from Roosevelt High School — where he began perfecting the humor and stubborn loyalty that would later serve him well as a lifelong Cleveland sports fan.
He worked as a block operator on the railroad and retired from Conrail, carrying with him a lifetime love of trains. He also worked at Rico, where he made many lifelong friendships.
Russ enjoyed bowling and was the catcher for the Redeemer Lutheran softball team in his younger years. He loved the outdoors and spent countless happy hours fishing, hunting and camping. He was a member of the Mahoning County Coon Club and a familiar face at the Moose Lodge in Florida, where he spent his retirement winters as a snowbird.
Whether in Ohio or Florida, Russ had a knack for finding wonderful friends and having a good time. In June 1962, Russ married the love of his life, Patricia. Patty suffered from multiple sclerosis, and Russ was her primary caregiver until she went to be with the Lord in December 2011. Together they built a family grounded in laughter and love.
He is survived by his children, Tammy Toti (Rob) and Russell C. Snowberger; a granddaughter, Christa; his brother, Ronald; his sister, Virginia Ellsworth; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his loving companion, Carol Archer, and her children (Bob, Sherman, Linda and Phil), who brought him great joy, companionship and adventure in his later years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles, and Carol’s son, Chris.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Shepherd of the Valley, Patriot Home Health Care and Lane Funeral Home in Canfield for their kindness and support. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when family and friends can come together to share stories and memories of Russ’ life.
