Ronald W. Carroll 1943-2026

CANFIELD — Ronald W. Carroll, 83, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026.

He was born Jan. 8, 1943, in Salem, a son of the late William and Wilda Gromley Carroll.

A proud graduate of Leetonia High School, Ron pursued further education and earned an associate degree from Beaver College.

His journey in aviation took flight early. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, where his love for aviation deepened. He was on an underground missile launch crew in a cornfield in Lincoln, Nebraska. Ron earned his private pilot’s license while in the Air Force at an aero club on the base.

A member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and a former member of YARBCC, Ron contributed significantly to the aviation community. His expertise was recognized when he became an FAA-certified pilot examiner. His dedication extended beyond aviation; he was also an active member of the Austintown and Canfield Rotary Clubs and was honored with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award.

In his earlier years, Ron enjoyed skiing. His zest for life was infectious, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and adventure.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Kathy M. Brown Carroll, whom he married Dec. 23, 1989; children, Annette Dockus of Lakewood and Greg (Rachele) Carroll of Howland; his cherished grandchildren, Jessica (Drew) Chewning, Christopher (Angela) Dockus, Kent (Diana) Dockus, Peyton Carroll, Cole Dockus, Gabby Carrol and Jack Kirr; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Evelyn Dockus.

Ronald was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Carroll-Kirr; brothers, Alvin Carroll, Paul Carroll and John Carroll; and a sister, Jean Corkum.

Family and friends will gather for calling hours 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at St. Michael Church, providing friends and family an opportunity to celebrate Ron’s remarkable life. Prior to Mass, prayers will be at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m.
