Robert ‘Bob” Raymond Elko 1940-2026

CAMPBELL — Robert “Bob” Raymond Elko, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.

Bob was born Oct. 30, 1940, in Youngstown, a son of John and Mary Krajnick Elko, and was a lifelong resident of Campbell. He was a 1958 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.

Bob married the love of his life, the former Myrna Regina Medvez, on Sept. 23, 1961, and they shared 49 years of marriage until her passing on Nov. 28, 2010.

Besides being a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, he served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1961 as a quartermaster 2nd class on the USS Hawkins DDR873, a radar picket destroyer. He then worked as an insurance agent, a school bus driver and as head custodian for Campbell City Schools and retired in 2001.

Bob was of the Catholic faith and was a parishioner of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish in Campbell. He also served as an altar boy and usher, helped decorate the church during the holidays and was involved in many other church activities.

Bob enjoyed fishing and going to garage sales, and loved going to the Outer Banks with family and friends. He enjoyed spending quality time with his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who called him GP2 (great-grandpa). He will be sadly missed by his family and all those who loved him.

Dad was our hero. He showed us what true love is. He was a wonderful husband and took care of our mother all of his life, including when she became very ill. He stood by her side until she departed. He was also a wonderful father, grandpa and GP2. He was always there for us.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Cheryl (Tim) Mincher of Campbell and Lisa (Ronald) Wiland of Brazil, Indiana; his son, Robert J. Elko (Jendi) of Grandy, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Aaron) Miller of Canfield, Christopher (Jenna) Michaels of Youngstown, Carley (JD) Childers of Campbell, Jordyn Pregibon of Vienna, A.J. Reardon of Hermitage, Pa., Adam (Lari) Wiland of Silverdale, Washington, and Zachery (Autumn) Wiland of Virginia Beach, Virginia; four great-grandchildren, Grayson and Gavin Miller, Mila Pregibon and Mia Wiland; two sisters, Carol (Tom) Stricklin of Houston, Texas, and Marsha (Gene) Rhodes of Warren; along with many nieces and nephews; and his beloved pet cat, Gypsy.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, his daughter, Shelly Michaels, and his parents.

Private services were held Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, at Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell.

The family wishes to thank all family and friends for their gestures of sympathy, kindness and prayers.

The family requests that donations be made in Bob’s name to the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, P.O. Box 2573, Murrells Inlet, SC 29676.
