Norma ‘Jean’ Harris 1934-2026

Together again

NEW SPRINGFIELD — Norma “Jean” Harris, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, in the comfort of her home.

Born Nov. 23, 1934, in Columbus, Jean was the daughter of the late Norman Edward and Ada Mildred Goughnour Dash.

On Feb. 1, 1950, Jean married the love of her life, David “Bill” Harris. The two shared 58 beautiful years of marriage until Bill’s passing in 2008.

Family was the center of Jean’s world. Affectionately known as “Nana,” she never missed a family gathering and treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. She loved playing card games, Yahtzee and dominos, and could often be found watching her favorite game shows. Jean enjoyed mini golf outings, trips to the casino and, most especially, indulging her sweet tooth — dessert was never complete without pie and ice cream. She was selfless, always putting others before herself, and her home was filled with love, laughter and often a few beloved fur babies.

Jean leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Sandra Cain of New Middletown, Judy Weaver of Justin, Texas, Gary (Bonnie Broussard) Harris of Nevada and Terri (Bob) Szelazek of Petersburg. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Stacey (Dale) Wofford, Duane (Karla) Harris, Jessica Harris, Kari (Dave) Washburn, Brooke (Matt) Karas, Robert Szelazek, Zachary (Barbara) Cain and Joshua Cain; along with 10 great-grandchildren and several cherished pets.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, David “Bill” Harris; her son, Mark Harris; and eight siblings.

Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2026, at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, and 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Evangel Baptist Church, 5248 Southern Blvd. Youngstown, OH 44512, followed by a service at 11 a.m.
