Nancy A. McAllen 1930-2026

HOWLAND — Nancy A. McAllen, 95, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026.

Nancy was born April 27, 1930, in Youngstown, a daughter of J. Fred and Mary A. Coyne Knott.

She attended St. Edward Elementary School, was a proud 1948 graduate of Ursuline High School and a 1951 graduate of St. Elizabeth School of Nursing.

Nancy was a registered nurse and had worked at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, Youngstown, at a hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, for Doctor Shorr in Youngstown and ended her career in 1999 after many years at Windsor Nursing Home in Youngstown.

Nancy donated blood to the Red Cross, reaching a goal of 100 pints at the age of 90. She wanted to continue, but on the advice of her doctor, she reluctantly ceased.

She spent summers at Lake Erie from childhood at the cottage in Madison, where family gathered for many celebrations and days of sun, swimming and enjoying the beach. Nancy loved her many trips to Florida, Costa Rica and many other states, visiting family and friends.

She enjoyed meeting her friends at the monthly “First Grade Club” from St. Edwards School and “Nurses Club” from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing.

Her husband, John B. “Jack” McAllen, whom she married Sept. 5, 1953, at St. Edward Church in Youngstown, passed away Feb. 7, 2024.

Nancy will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her family: her children, Ellen Marie (David) Tepsick of Canfield, Michael McAllen (Diann Federici) of Mentor, Elizabeth Ann McAllen (Mark) Veca of Ridgewood, New Jersey, and John F. (Vicki) McAllen of Madison; and nine grandchildren, Jason (Ashley) Tepsick, Jon (Claire) Tepsick, Jennifer (James) Valencic, Amy (Matthew) Powell, Michael McAllen Jr., Lucas Veca, Amanda (Jon) Medieros, Emily (L.J.) Sutton and Matthew (Tawni) McAllen; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She also leaves her sister-in-law, Peggy Knott and her family, of Brookville, Pa., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years; her sister, Barbara Rodgers and husband, Paul; her brother, Joseph Knott; brother-in-law, Edward McAllen and his wife, Patricia McAllen; and sister-in-law, Patricia Lyden and her husband, Frances Lyden.
