Mary M. Bartelmay 1940-2026

Mary was a proud graduate of The Rayen High School (’58) and Youngstown University (’62), where she earned her degree in education.

She retired as a first-grade teacher from West Boulevard Elementary in Boardman.

Known affectionately as “Butchie,” Mary is remembered for her humor, warmth and generous spirit.

She is survived by her three children, Kristin (Tim) Harpe of Bexley, Roy Bartelmay of Baltimore, Maryland, and Karen Salajko (Jamie Burrier) of Worthington; her grandchildren: Meg, Tucker, Pete, Hayden, Michaella, Kate, J.J. and Luke; and her sister, Fran (Jerome) Keating of Winter Garden, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herb; her parents, Joseph and Frances Shon; her brother, Sam Shon; and her sister, Anna Marie Gerst.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, followed by a funeral service and celebration of life at noon, at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home, 403 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43215. A reception will follow.
