Margaret M. Ong 1928-2026
YOUNGSTOWN — Margaret M. Ong, 97, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, Jan. 30, 2026, at Austinwoods Rehabilitation Center, with her family by her side.
Margaret was born Aug. 17, 1928, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Kovach Potocnak, and was a lifelong area resident.
A 1946 graduate of Ursuline High School, Margaret began her working years at Republic Finance Company. She later chose to dedicate her life to her family, finding her greatest fulfillment in caring for her home and loved ones.
Mrs. Ong was a member of the former Holy Name of Jesus Church. She cherished her monthly card games with her club ladies and enjoyed luncheons with her “girls” from Holy Name. Above all else, Margaret treasured the time spent with her family, which brought her the greatest joy.
Margaret leaves to forever cherish her memory, her daughter, Marian Miller of Streetsboro; her son, Richard Ong, with whom she shared her home; two grandchildren, Ben (Makella Whetzel) Miller of Hiram and Dan (Tawny) Miller of Streetsboro; three great-grandchildren, Ian, Eliza and Harvey; her brother, Michael Potocnak of Youngstown; a daughter-in-law, Denise Zyndorf of West Palm Beach, Florida; and many extended family members.
Her husband of 53 years, Harold E. Ong, whom she married Nov. 8, 1952, died Jan 16, 2006.
In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her son, Harold M. Ong; her sister, Dorothy Potocnak; her son-in-law, Mark Miller; and her sister-in-law, Anna Potocnak.
Family and friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Margaret will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
Margaret’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
