James D. Habuda 1941-2026

YOUNGSTOWN — James “Jim” Dominic Habuda, 84, passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026.

Jim was born July 21, 1941, in Youngstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Edward Habuda and Mary Suha Habuda, and his granddaughter, Ashley Noelle Clark.

Jim is survived by his six children, Kim, Jimmy, Sherry, Nicholas, Benjamin and Daniel; along with a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jim was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Youngstown.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

A dedicated member of the construction trade, Jim was known for his skills as a cement finisher and his love for the simpler things in life: grilling the perfect steak, a good maple cream stick and the company of his dogs. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching football, boxing, golf and auto racing. Jim relished the opportunity to drive around in his cherry red Corvette. He enjoyed a good party and hosted many gatherings of friends and family over the years.

In his younger days, Jim lived for sunny afternoons by the family pool. He was often the star of the show, famously diving off the pool shed into the shallow water – an act that routinely began with gasps of fear from onlookers, only to be followed by roars of laughter and cheers of appreciation once he surfaced. It was in those moments, surrounded by splashing water and loud music, that Jim’s vibrant and fearless nature shone.

On the milder side, Jim found a different kind of peace outdoors. He could often be seen riding his lawnmower with a cold brew in hand and a deep, dark tan, taking immense pride in the simple task of maintaining his yard. His commitment to an immaculate lawn was a reflection of the same precision he brought to his trade, and seeing him atop his tractor on a Sunday afternoon is a memory that will forever resonate with his family.
