Garrett C. Connors 1940-2026
YOUNGSTOWN — Garrett Charles Connors, 85, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026, due to cancer and heart conditions.
He was born July 17, 1940, in Youngstown.
Garrett attended Youngstown City Schools and graduated from Chaney High School in 1958.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army and spent 3 ½ years in Germany.
After returning from the Army, he worked for the maintenance division at the Edward J. DeBartolo Company. Garrett then continued part time and was named to the Youngstown Fire Department in May 1964, full time.
After retirement, Garrett enjoyed outdoor activities like biking, fishing, hunting and gardening. He especially enjoyed Mill Creek Park. Fishing was his favorite, hitting all the local lakes and driving up to Canada twice a year. He also followed local and professional sports with the Cleveland Browns and listened on the radio to the Cleveland Guardians. Besides watching sports on TV, he would attend numerous sporting events with his grandchildren. Finally, Garrett also enjoyed picking stocks and doing the daily crossword puzzle in The Vindicator.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett E. Connors and Judy Lucarell Connors; his sister, Kathleen Connors of California; and his first son, Daniel Connors.
Garrett leaves behind his wife, Florence Ledinko Connors; his two daughters, Christine M. Connors of Shaker Heights, Eve A. Connors Washington and her husband, Johnny, of Boardman; and his son, Garrett M. Connors and Melanie Wilson Connors of Austintown. Garrett also leaves 10 grandchildren, Sarah Shumar, Michael and Gabrielle Sabatino of Willoughby, Lonnie McQueen in Arizona, Jessica McQueen, Nicklaus and Christina McQueen of Boardman, Jesse McQueen of Austintown, Jacki Prusak, Garrett E. Connors of Boardman, Alexandria Connors of Austintown and Ryan Connors of Austintown; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one on the way.

Visitation will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home on Canfield Road in Youngstown, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Blaise Parish-St. Joseph Church, New Road in Austintown.
Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home handled all of the arrangements for the family.
