NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Catherine Hirst, formerly of Poland, passed away peacefully at Hospice House on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, with her daughter and son-in-law at her side.
She was born Oct. 7, 1933, in Rochester, Pa., the daughter of the late Oakland A. and Cecilia E. Chelba Valentine.
Catherine graduated from East High School and started working at General Electric and later worked for Boardman Schools as a custodian until her retirement.
She married John Hirst on May 28, 1960; sadly, he passed away Sept. 19, 2007.
Catherine leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Jackie (Joe) Nemeth of New Middletown, with whom she made her home, and Debbie Kovach of Butler, Pa.; her grandchildren, Rebecca Borosky (Travis Henry), Jon ( Sara) Borosky and Joseph Borosky; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Kayleigh, Joey and Brennen Borosky, and Landon Smith; daughter-in-law, Theresa Borosky of Frost Wood, Maryland; and her aide and bestie, Brittny Hampton.
Besides her parents and her husband, Catherine was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Bernie, Robert, James and Paul Valentine; and her sisters, Margaret Cheslock and Mary Smith.
Per Catherine's wishes, there are no services.
She will be buried next to her husband in the Lutheran cemetery in New Springfield.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman.
