Richard J. Hevener 1947-2025

AUSTINTOWN — Richard J. Hevener, 78, of Austintown, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, Dec. 29, 2025, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 1, 1947, in Youngstown, a son of Clare and Virginia Martin Hevener.

Richard was a 1967 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and worked as a truck driver for most of his adult life.

He married the former Bonnie S. Lanterman on Sept. 19, 1970. Together they shared 38 years of marriage and many happy memories. She preceded him in death Dec. 16, 2008.

Richard enjoyed doing home improvement projects, woodworking, and he was an avid gun collector. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife and grandchildren and taking family camping trips. Richard adored his grandchildren and spent as much time with them as he could. They were his true reason for being.

He is survived by three children, Diane (Matthew) Hofus of Canfield, April (Mack) McComb of Columbus and Jeff (Noel) Hevener of North Jackson; a brother, Dennis (Kathy) Hevener of Boardman; and four beloved grandchildren, Meila, Tannor, Connor and James.

Besides his wife, Richard was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Claire Mazzella.

Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown.

Friends may call one hour prior to services, from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in the Green Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Canfield.
