Phyllis F. Scarpine 1928-2026

YOUNGSTOWN — Phyllis F. Scarpine, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026.

Phyllis was born April 15, 1928, in Youngstown, the daughter of Samuel and Mary DePinto Vitullo. She grew up in Briar Hill and was proud of her Italian heritage. She then moved to Cornersburg in 1947. She was a 1947 graduate of The Rayen High School.

Phyllis worked in the jewelry department at G.M. McKelvey Department Store.

She was a member of St. Matthias Church and a longtime auxiliary member of VFW Post 3767 in Hubbard.

Her husband, Joseph Scarpine Jr., whom she married Sept. 7, 1953, passed away March 14, 2011.

Phyllis will always be remembered lovingly by three daughters, Patty Scarpine, who provided loving and devoted care to her mother for many years, Pamela (Chuck) Sanor and Mary Teresa (Russell) Boda; four grandchildren, Mark S. (Kirby) Boda, Leslie P. (Chris) Valentine, Carly M. (Steve) Wallis and Sarah Jo Knipple; five great-grandchildren; two bonus sons, Michael (Stacey) Durkin and Tim (Jill) Durkin; six bonus grandchildren; one bonus great-grandchild; and two godchildren, Nicole Ulrich and Kevin Kernan.

Family and friends may pay their respects 9 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Columba Cathedral, 144 W. Wood St., Youngstown.
