Peter G. Panis 1937-2026

CANFIELD — Peter G. Panis, 88, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at Hospice House.

He was born Nov. 2, 1937, in Massillon, a son of George Panis and the former Theone Syrios.

Peter was a graduate of Massillon High School, and he received his bachelor’s degree in business from Kent State University. While at Kent State, he played on the tennis team.

Peter was a proud alumnus of Kent State and a dedicated supporter of athletics and alumni. He was an affiliated member of the Tippecanoe Country Club, where he loved to golf. He took pleasure in playing tennis and racquetball. In his 50s, he won a State of Ohio tennis tournament. If there was a racket involved, he played the sport. He had a passion for vintage cars and was particularly fond of Corvettes. He cherished his dog, General Patton.

Peter spent winters in Naples, Florida, at the Strand golf community with his wife, Patricia.

Peter is survived by his wife, the former Patricia Cronin, whom he married Jan. 23, 1976; three daughters, Stephanie Panis, Kristen (Michael) Powers and Stacy (fiance, Steve) Sullivan; son, Greg Panis; sister, Dr. Catherine Conlin; and three grandchildren, Garrett (Emilee) Sullivan, Charlotte Herschberger and Brooke Powers.

In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Protos and Georgia Koutras.

Calling hours will be 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.

Prayers will be 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral service at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Youngstown, 220 N. Walnut St.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Youngstown, 220 N. Walnut St.

He will be laid to rest in Canfield Cemetery.
