Patricia Moylan 1939-2025

AUSTINTOWN — Patricia “Patty” Moylan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at the age of 86.

She was born Dec. 10, 1939, on the South Side of Youngstown, the daughter of the late Emil and Lillian Schmaltz Mentges, and was a lifelong area resident.

She graduated from South High School in 1957. After graduation, she served as a candy striper at Northside Hospital, a waitress, and spent over 23 years working at General Motors Lordstown Assembly Plant. She was one of the first women hired at Lordstown in 1970, working in a variety of car assembly areas and spending much of her career as a salaried quality control analyst before retiring in 1993.

After retirement, she served as president of the Lordstown Retired Salaried Employees organization.

She married her husband, Thomas Moylan, on Jan. 30, 1960, and the couple resided in Austintown for the remainder of their lives.

She was a lifelong member of St. Dominic Parish and volunteered for many years in a variety of parish ministries, including Parish Council, CCD, RCIA and the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic, where she served as president.

In her retirement, she travelled around the country with her husband, family and friends, instilling a love of travel in her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, in 2009; her parents; her sister, Kathryn Conroy; her brother, Amil Mentges; and her son-in-law, James Glynn Karas.

She is survived by her children, Patty Karas, Michele Moylan and Stephen (Kara) Moylan; four grandchildren, Amy, Michael, Tommy and Reece; and one great-grandchild, Bennett. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she cared for greatly.

Family and friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at the Fox Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave., Youngstown.
