Mary A. Vernars 1941-2026
BOARDMAN — Mary Ann Vernars, 84, died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at her home.
She was born May 29, 1941, in Youngstown, a daughter of Nick and Ann Kussic.
Mary Ann graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She acquired her real estate license. She participated in a bowling league and was actively involved in the St. Charles School community while her children attended school there.
In 1984, she started her career as a toll collector on the Ohio Turnpike, from where she eventually retired.
Mary Ann cherished spending time at the casino. She also enjoyed working on word searches and indulging in chewing gum, especially Mentos spearmint chewing gum.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Michael Vernars; daughter, Kerry (Dominic) Prologo of Canfield; son, Michael Vernars of Flower Mound, Texas; four grandchildren, Priscilla Ali (Matt) Kalbfell, Vincent Prologo, and Nicholas and Tony Vernars; and a great-granddaughter, Julie Kalbfell.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Vernars; sisters, Phyllis Kussic and Dolores Hankavich; and brother, Tom “Butch” Kussic.
Services will be private.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
