SALEM -- Margaret "Margie" Greene James, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, surrounded by family.
She was born at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron and lived a life rooted in faith, family and love.
Margie was a graduate of Ursuline High School and built her career as a bank teller with Chase Bank, where she was known for her kindness, patience and steady presence.
Outside of work, she found joy in the simple blessings of life. She loved Myrtle Beach, riding bikes, taking road trips and sharing meals with family, especially at Texas Roadhouse.
Above all else, she loved Jesus. Her faith was the foundation of her life and she was a devoted member of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church, serving as the treasurer for several years. She lived her faith daily, guided by prayer, grace and humility.
Margie was a peacemaker by nature, gentle in spirit, slow to anger and always seeking unity and understanding. She had a quiet way of bringing calm into difficult moments and making people feel heard and loved.
Margie was preceded in death by her son, Chris; daughter, Nicole; brother, Robert Greene; her father, Jack Greene; and her mother, Olga Greene.
She leaves her loving husband, Bill James; brothers, Mike Greene and John (Gail) Greene; sisters, Barb Greene and Kathy (John) Jacobs. She is also survived by her children, Brian (Amy) Dettmer, Keith (Tracey) Dettmer and Kevin (Amy) Dettmer; and stepchildren, Doug (Kim) Allen, Paula Spitler and Melissa (Brian) Black.
Margie was a devoted and loving grandmother to Nathan (Taylor), Aaron, Kaleb, Connor, Carter, Dean and Cora Dettmer; Daniel (Skylar) and Emily Rhodes; Leah and Rachel Allen; and Micha Black; and great-grandchildren, Zayn and Kai Rhodes.
Calling hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Cornerstone Assembly of God, 185 W. South Range Road, North Lima, OH 44452, followed by a celebration of life at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Margie's heart and faith, donations may be made to Cornerstone Assembly of God Church.
Her legacy of prayer, compassion and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. These words were written in the Bible of Margie James: "With God there is always a way. By faith I will find it."
