Madeleine M. Gulas 1990-2026

KENT — Madeleine Marlisa Gulas passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2026.

She was born in the early hours of July 18, 1990, one minute after her twin sister, Chesney Alexandra, in Akron. She was the daughter of John S. and Chesney D. Zellers Gulas of Hudson.

Madeleine graduated from Laurel School in Shaker Heights and went to college at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, and the University of Akron. She was one of those people who excelled in both mathematics and art. She mastered technical bead weaving at the age of 9, worked on intricate petit point pieces, painted in pastels, and loved color and texture. Madeleine appreciated antiques, decorating and studying architecture. She would spend hours preparing meals and made sure it was perfect whether Korean, Indian or our own family recipes.

She loved experimenting with dance, including modern, ballroom, tap or Irish dance. She played the viola, took American karate and loved running in cross country and track. She took French, Latin and Greek and loved travel and learning. She constantly researched anything of interest to her.

She graduated from the Master Gardening program at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Youngstown and joined Holborn Herb Guild in Canfield. Madeleine was especially fond of Holborn’s annual tea. She volunteered for Treez Please in Youngstown, was treasurer of the Secular Student Alliance (SSA) at UA and did volunteer work to benefit the environment and other areas of human need.

Madeleine was predeceased by her grandparents, Karl B. and Lois Ann Dewalt Zellers of Salem, and Steve A. and Elsa Toth Gulas of Austintown.

Madeleine was a resident of Kent and she loved Scribbles’ Junior Turmeric Bolts.
