Joy A. Aho 1952-2026

VIENNA — It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Joy A. Aho, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who departed this world Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at her residence in Vienna.

Joy was born Nov. 26, 1952, in Youngstown, to the late Russell D. Glover Sr. and Vergil M. Tillery Glover. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Ann Glover.

Joy lived a life dedicated to nurturing and educating young minds. For 27 years, she served as a teacher at Head Start in Warren, where she influenced countless children and families with her warmth, compassion and dedication. Her educational journey was marked by a bachelor’s degree in teaching, reflecting her commitment to fostering a love of learning.

She was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard.

A family-oriented woman at heart, Joy cherished her time spent with her loved ones. She is survived by her adoring husband, John R. Aho Sr., whom she married Oct. 1, 1971; her son, John R. Aho Jr.; daughters, Jennifer (Larry) Rhodes and Jodi Gallagher; and her brother, Russell Glover Jr.

Joy took immense pride in her grandchildren, Kayla (Matt) Evans, Marc Rhodes, Korrina Rollins and Dale Lantz Jr., and delighted in the joy brought by her great-grandchildren, Ryker Rhodes and Nellie Rhodes.

Joy’s personality shone bright, illuminating the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. She enjoyed playing bingo immensely and found joy in bus trips to casinos.

Her memory will be cherished, and her legacy will undoubtedly live on through the lives she touched and the love she spread.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, from 10 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at Blackstone Funeral Home, located at 672 Churchill Road, Girard, OH 44420. A funeral service will follow, commencing at noon, allowing loved ones to gather in celebration of her devoted life to family and students.

The family would like to extend an invitation to a memorial luncheon immediately following the funeral service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 78 E. Liberty St., Girard.

Joy A. Aho left an indelible mark on all who knew her and will be profoundly missed by her family.

The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44446.

She will be laid to rest in Girard City Cemetery.
