John David Davis 1970-2026
YOUNGSTOWN — John David Davis, 55, unexpectedly passed away at his home on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026.
John was born Sept. 22, 1970, in Youngstown, to David Howard Davis and Martha Sue Powell Davis, and was a 1988 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He grew up surrounded by family and carried those close bonds with him throughout his life.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a meteorological and navigation systems specialist and a vehicle operator and dispatcher from 1989 to 1993. He was stationed in Spain during Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm.
During his service, John received the following awards: Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon and the Air Force Training Ribbon. A true patriot, John was deeply proud of his military service and honored to have served his country, so much so that he had a tattoo on his shoulder of an eagle coming out of an American flag that he proudly displayed.
Upon completion of his term of service, John worked as a machine operator at Integral (formerly Edge Seal Technologies) in Austintown. He was a loyal employee for over 25 years until he had to exit the workforce due to health issues that involved the amputation of his left leg.
John met his wife Sherry Hicks Davis in 1994, and got married on May 23, 1998, sharing the same wedding anniversary as his parents. The two welcomed their one and only child, Samantha Davis, on April 6, 2000.
He was a devoted husband to his wife whom he shared 27 loving years of marriage with, and a deeply caring and protecting father to his daughter, whom he affectionately called “Little Foot.”
John is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Hicks Davis ; his daughter, Samantha Davis; his mother-in-law, Judith Chinn Hicks; his aunt, Carolyn Bannon; his uncle, Donald Powell; his sister-in-law, Stephanie Hicks-Weingart; his nephews, Christopher Scafuri, Joe Scafuri, Jordan Wilson (Stephanie Vargo) and Noah Weingart; his nieces, Jackie Scafuri (James Bell) and Courtney Wilson; and his great-nephews and great-nieces, Saint Scafuri, Natalie Bell, Colton Bell, Ayden Wilson, Brooklynn Wilson, Mackenzie Wilson and Everleigh Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Martha Davis; his sister, Susan Davis Longoria; his aunt, Catherine Johnson; and his uncles, Freddy Davis and Ralph Davis.
Though his passing was unexpected, John’s family finds comfort in believing he is once again walking on both feet and reunited with his cherished late pets, Cleo, Penny, Maggy, Oscar, Marley, Ginger, Rex and Tinkerbell.
To respect John’s wishes, private services were held for the immediate family.
To honor John’s lifelong pride in serving his country, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Veterans’ Outreach, 17 Colonial Drive, Youngstown, OH 44505, veteransoutreach.org/donate/.
