Jeffrey C. Swanson 1950-2026

CANFIELD — Jeffrey C. Swanson passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at the age of 75.

Born March 7, 1950, in Youngstown, Jeff lived a life marked by purpose, dedication and an unwavering commitment to his family.

A proud 1968 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, where he played football, he continued his academic journey by earning a bachelor’s degree in business from Youngstown State University, which would lay the groundwork for a successful career in transportation management.

In 2007, Jeff and his wife moved to Bluffton, South Carolina, where Jeff spent many fulfilling years working at Johnson Matthey in Savannah, Georgia, where he retired in 2015. His professional journey was marked by active involvement in the Youngstown Traffic Club and the Trumbull Traffic Club, where he served in leadership roles, including officer and president, showcasing his dedication to the industry.

In 2019, Jeff and his wife made the heartfelt decision to return to their roots and move to Canfield.

After moving back, he and his wife attended Canfield Presbyterian Church.

Jeff’s life was enriched by his love for music and the joys of cruising and traveling with his wife. Together they cherished their time with the “Dine Around” group in South Carolina, creating lasting memories and friendships along the way. Above all, Jeff will be remembered as a devoted family man who cherished his sons and his granddaughters

Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Pam Gutelius Swanson, whom he married Dec. 23, 1989; his mother, Margaret Fox of Canfield; his sons, Jeffrey C. Swanson Jr. of Savannah, Georgia, and Jason Edward (Marcie) Swanson of Bluffton, South Carolina; three granddaughters, Paige, Lauren and Ashley Swanson; sister, Barbara L. (James) Stewart of Lake Milton; brother-in-law, Dan (Pat) Gutelius of Howland; nephews and a niece, Trevor and Troy Stewart, Beth (Adam) Kane and Steve (Marissa) Gutelius; and great-nieces and -nephews, Logan and Carolyn Stewart, Lyla Kane, and Dylan and Jackson Gutelius.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Carl A. Swanson, and brother-in-law, Gary Gutelius.

Funeral services for Jeffrey will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr’s Centre Drive. The family will welcome friends for calling hours 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
