Jeanette Nugen 1939-2026

POLAND — Jeanette “Jane” Nugen, 86, passed peacefully to the side of her Savior Jesus on Tuesday Jan. 6, 2026, following a short illness.

She was born July 21, 1939, in Lowellville, the first child of Michael J. and Anna Opar Semonza. She graduated from Struthers High School in 1957 and shortly after married her high school love, David Bob Nugen. They enjoyed 42 years of marriage.

Jane grew up in Lowellville, spent a short stint near Carbon, Pa., then Struthers, Poland, back to Lowellville and back to Struthers until the end, never venturing far from home, family or church.

Early in her marriage, Jane managed the People’s Bank branch in Poland, earning her way into management in an era where women were typically not expected to, a testament to her strong will and financial savvy.

She enjoyed pet ownership with Bob and always had Boston and Winston near.

Later in life, she became devoted and involved in her church, Struthers United Methodist, later named Yellow Creek Methodist. From potluck dinners to ministering together by feeding people at the rescue mission, she was dedicated to her church and friends as long as she had strength, and her Bible and a pile of daily devotional books was never far from her reach at home.

Her family wishes to acknowledge Pastor Doug Theobald and the congregation, including a list of 17 names of friends she had specially mentioned to them in a letter.

Jane is survived by her sister, Kathy (Dan) Pavlansky of Yadkinville, North Carolina; nieces and nephews, Thomas, Jennifer and Megan Nugen, Michelle, Carolyn and Michael Carbone, and Mark, Keith, Jon, Jess and Chris Pavlansky; and her brother-in-law, Michael Carbone.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her beloved only daughter, Cheri, who passed in 1990; and her sister, Marilyn Carbone.

In accordance with Jane’s wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.

She will be laid to rest in Poland Riverside Cemetery with her husband and daughter.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Please visit www.beckerobits.com to send the family condolences and share your memories.
