Ex-Corsican nationalist leader shot dead at mother’s funeral
PARIS (AP) — Former Corsican nationalist leader Alain Orsoni has been shot dead in Corsica during his mother’s funeral, according to French newspaper Le Monde. He was 71 years old.
The Ajaccio public prosecutor, Nicolas Septe, has opened an investigation into murder by an organized gang.
Orsoni was a leader of the Corsican National Liberation Front in the 1980s and later founded the Movement for Self-Determination.
Orsoni had been targeted in an assassination plot in 2008 and also served as president of the AC Ajaccio soccer club.
