BOARDMAN — It is with great sadness that the family of Edward “Rick” James Carline and Barbara

Jean Lavaglio Carline announces their unexpected passing. Rick died at the age of 79 on Aug. 25, 2025. Barb died at the age of 78 on Oct. 13, 2025.

Rick was born Jan. 15, 1946, in Youngstown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Florence Yura Carline.

Rick graduated from YSU with a B.S. in education. He worked for the Handleman Company as a purchaser as well as an operations manager until the company’s closing. He then opened his own business and was the owner and operator of Appearance Plus Dry Cleaners on Mahoning Avenue for 23 years until his retirement.

Barb was born March 2, 1947, in Youngstown. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Mary Brunetti Lavaglio, as well as her brother, Nicholas.

Barb had a passion for fashion. She spent many years working in the retail industry, mostly at Burlington Coat Factory in the ladies’ sportswear department, several of those years as a manager.

Rick and Barb began their journey together as high school sweethearts at Woodrow Wilson High School classes of 1964 and 1965, respectively; and married Sept. 7, 1968. If opposites attract, then they were a model couple. Rick was reserved and thoughtful with his words, and Barb was gregarious and had words for anyone she met.

Both were avid exercise enthusiasts. Barb frequented all the gyms in the Boardman area and loved socializing while Rick created his own private basement gym. Rick enjoyed making his own wine and sharing with loved ones while Barb enjoyed spending time with friends, shopping for all the latest trends and finding new ways to style her hair.

They will be forever missed by their daughters, Tina Cirman (Tom) and Nichole Carline, as well as granddaughters, Carly and Elena Cirman. They will also be remembered by Rick’s sister, Joann Baker (John), who was in all ways a sister to both; brother, Thomas Carline (Theresa); Barb’s sister-in-law, Roberta Lavaglio; as well as five nieces and two nephews.

Rick’s cousin, best friend and confidante, Carmen Neapolitan Sr., wife, Jennifer, and family were a significant part of Rick, Barb, Tina and Nichole’s lives, and the two families created many lasting memories together.

Rick and Barb enjoyed spending time with the son they never had, Carmen Neapolitan Jr., wife Angelisa and family, who always included and looked out for them.

A private burial will take place.

The family would like to thank Joe Rossi of Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home for his friendship and support.
