David L. Glassco 1962-2025

WESTFIELD, N.J. — It is with profound sadness that we share that David L. Glassco O.D.’s fight with multiple myeloma came to an end Monday, Dec. 22, 2025. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.

David resided in Westfield, New Jersey. He was born in Youngstown and previously lived in Chicago, Cincinnati (where he was a member of the Cincinnati Men’s Chorus) and Louisville.

He was preceded in death by his mother whom he adored, Elizabeth, and his father, Frank.

He is survived by his husband, David Fielder; sisters, Sheila Blott and Karen Mason; niece, Marilee Modarelli, her husband, Jeff, and their children, Joe and Matthew; nephew, Bill Blott, and his children, Dylan and Anthony; his niece, Beckey, her husband, Michael, and daughter, Cassy; and his cherished pets, Lexie, Charlie, Chester and Gabe.

David had so many accomplishments for which his family is proud. When he was young it was happenstance that he was cast in the Youngstown Playhouse’s production of “Gypsy,” a show that remained special to him throughout his life and was capped off by seeing Audra McDonald in the recent Broadway revival.

He graduated from Chaney High School (1981), where he was treasurer of the National Honor Society. In high school he found his love of French and was vice president of the French club and earned the City Award for Excellence in Foreign Languages. He furthered his studies with three years of night classes at the Alliance Francaise of Cincinnati.

His formal education continued at Youngstown State University, where he was accepted to graduate school after only two years of undergraduate work. He then went to The Ohio State University, receiving a degree as a doctor of optometry. He was Beta Sigma Kappa, International Optometric Honor Society, and vice president of the pledge class in the Epsilon Psi Epsilon Optometric Fraternity. Lastly, he received the highest postgraduate pharmacology exam score (as of 2011) at Salus University.

His career in optometry spanned many years and many locations, holding eight different state licenses. Primarily he worked at LensCrafters, Target Optical and Lasik Plus and received a national award for Excellence in Patient Satisfaction in 2007.

His passions in life were many. First and foremost, he was an avid animal lover. He was a proud dad to many pets over the years but especially cherished his Westie Charlie and his beloved Wrigley. He was an exceptional chef and baker and loved photography and travel. He visited Italy, England, Greece, Austria, the Czech Republic, Aruba, Curacao, the Bahamas, St. Thomas and St. John’s. He was able to fulfill his wish of spending his 50th birthday in Budapest, Hungary. Most special to him was his trip to France, where he was able to share his love of all things French with his mother. His most cherished memories were watching Elizabeth experience everything, especially spending Mother’s Day with her in Claude Monet’s garden at Giverny.

His husband, David, was blessed to have someone as special as him in his life. He planned the perfect wedding day down to the smallest detail.

His life was one that was far too short. He was loved by and loved many. He battled his cancer bravely and was incredibly strong. He did not want his disease to define him, and you can see there was so much more to him than that.

Special thanks go out to the amazing doctors and staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City.

A celebration of life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Leo’s Ristorante, 7042 E. Market St., Warren.
