Curtis A. Baun 1952-2026
BOARDMAN — Curtis A. Baun, 73, departed his earthly confines suddenly the morning of Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, to find the room the Lord had prepared for him.
He was born Nov. 3, 1952, in Youngstown, the son of the late Homer C. and Irene F. Snyder Baun.
Curt was a lifelong Boardman resident and graduated from Boardman High School in 1971. He found the person who would make him happy, Erica Otterson, and married her May 18, 2002. Curt was devoted to his family; he loved fiercely and was a sentimental soul. Sometimes this was displayed through his teasing and playfully tormenting those he held close. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and would cheer them on even when he could not attend their activities in person.
He grew up with a love for roller skating, where he met lifelong friends, his wife and it would remain an interest for the better part of his life as a competitive skater, coach and form of exercise. He held many interests. You could find him in section 204 as a season ticket holder and fan of Phantoms hockey. He enjoyed camping and would spend summers at Cook Forest as a kid and later with his family, fishing where he and his wife would spend peaceful mornings, and more recently enjoying live music and dancing. On quiet evenings he would watch a variety of adventure shows and was fascinated by stories of Sasquatch.
Curt was a skilled machinist and carpenter, trades he learned in high school, where he was the first recipient of the Gold Hammer Award. He worked at the Boardman Rollercade, Lawsons, General Extrusions and would later retire from I-Dee-X.
Curt was raised as a member of Christ Church Presbyterian but later found his church home at The Gate Church. He participated in Bible study and achieved a sense of spiritual pride having completely read the Bible through more than once.
Curt is survived by his loving wife, Erica; a man he considered to be his son, William D. (Amy) Amendol Jr. of Boardman; son, Scott A. (Jessica) Baun of Crestview, Florida; daughter, Cari R. Baun of Sevierville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Ethan, Matthew, Logan, Gracelynne and Mason; brother, Donald R. (Betty) Baun of Perrysville; sister, Jennifer L. Baun of Boardman; sister-in-law, Greta (Chris) Curry; nephew, Jacob Curry; niece, Megan (Gage Matthews) Curry; and his loyal beagle, Jaylah. He also leaves cousins from all sides of the family with whom he was close. If you were fortunate to know Curt, you easily became a lifelong friend.
There will be a celebration of life at The Gate Church, 11836 South Ave, North Lima, OH 44452, on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026. The family will receive visitors from 10 to 11 a.m., with a service following.
A private family interment will be held at a later time.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to For Every Season Ministries Inc., Unit 21, 11836 South Ave., North Lima, OH 44452.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Lane Funeral Home.
