Claude L. Meeker 1930-2026

BAY VILLAGE — Claude Lloyd Meeker, 95, formerly of Duncan Drive in Poland, passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, 2026, in Bay Village, where he had been living with his daughter for the past four years, surrounded by loving family.

Claude was born July 21, 1930, in Youngstown, son of Lloyd Gennings and Rose Handel Meeker.

He was a 1949 graduate of South High School and later served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Claude was a plumber by trade and a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #396 since November 1951. He retired in December 1996 after working 45 years.

Claude was an active member of Poland United Methodist Church. He served on various committees at the church and ushered for many years.

He was a loving and devoted husband and father, deeply devoted to family and community.

Claude had a lifelong love of sailing, owned a Pintail and was a longtime member of the NPCA Fleet Four. He also volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, working with the Cub Scouts pack at Poland United Methodist Church. Claude was a proud member of the Poland Band Boosters and always willing to help in any way he could.

In addition to his parents, Claude was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Margaret Gloria Davies, whom he married Feb. 10, 1951. Margaret Gloria passed away Feb. 22, 2022. He met his high school sweetheart ice skating; they were married and went on to celebrate 71 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth (Aletha) Meeker.

Claude is survived by two daughters, Melanie Campbell of Bay Village and Jennifer Meeker of Green Acres City, Florida; two grandchildren, Samantha (Thomas Ryan) Hamilton of Lakewood and Jacob (Praise) Campbell of Apollo, Pa.; a great-grandson, Liam Hamilton (Samantha and Ryan Hamilton); and a brother and sister-in-law, Allen (Sharon) Meeker of Edenton, North Carolina.

Family and friends may call 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at Cunningham Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Reverend Paul Turner officiating, followed by full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be given to Poland United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
