Carol J. Laberto 1943-2026
YOUNGSTOWN — Carol Jane Ellis Laberto, 82, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Carol was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Youngstown, to Kenneth Willard and Betty Jane Moyer Ellis.
She attended The Rayen School before moving to Hubbard, where she graduated from Hubbard High School on June 8, 1961. Carol later returned to school and attended the Youngstown State University nursing program, graduating with honors on March 28, 1981, with an associate degree in applied science. After passing her state board of nursing exam, she became a registered nurse. Carol was employed at Northside Medical Center, later known as Forum Health, for 26 years before retiring in 2007.
Carol was an avid reader and loved doing puzzles, especially crossword puzzles, word finds, sudoku and jigsaw puzzles — many of which she enjoyed with her best friend of 61 years, Donna McIntire of Youngstown.
She loved to travel, particularly to EPCOT in Florida, and also enjoyed a Trafalgar tour to England, Ireland and Wales with her friend Margie Thornton.
Carol leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Beth Laberto and Diane Laberto, both of Youngstown; her granddaughter, Amanda Laberto of Youngstown; her brother, Charles (JoAnn) Ellis of Sharon, Pa.; her sister-in-law, Marcella Ellis of Ignacio, Colorado; three nieces, Vicki (Jerry) Wallace, Christa (Mike Gagliardi) Cicuto and Tammy (Charles) Boen; two nephews, Kenneth (Shelley) Ellis and Rodney Ellis; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her younger brother, John Arthur Ellis, as well as her beloved fur babies, Lady and Barbie.
Family and friends may call 4 to 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, at Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers. A funeral service celebrating Carol’s life will immediately follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Lois Martin-Uscianowski officiating.
