Barbra Sachs 1943-2025

BOARDMAN — It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Barbra E. Shargo Sachs, 82, a beloved sister, aunt and friend, on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, at Hospice House.

Barb was born March 17, 1943, in Youngstown, to John and Emily Thomas Shargo.

A graduate of Vienna High School, Barb became a licensed cosmetologist and proudly owned and operated Creative Hair Style Salon in Youngstown.

She also organized several benefit shows to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

In 1981, she moved to Pacific Palisades, California, where for 30 years she ran a salon at the Ocean House in Santa Monica.

Barb had a lifelong passion for the Hollywood movie scene, the performing arts and music, especially the songs of Barbra Streisand and Andrea Bocelli. She was a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and shared her talents as a seamstress, set cook and makeup artist on many films.

She married her beloved husband, Alfred Sachs, on March 18, 1990, and they shared a loving marriage until his passing in 1993.

Barb returned to Youngstown in 2010, spending her later years surrounded by family.

Barb enjoyed playing bingo, driving her Mercedes and the friendly competition of cards with her family. She looked forward to lunches at Belleria in Struthers, where she loved seeing her favorite servers – Ashley, Laura, Mel and Mike. She was also known for her beautiful hand-embroidered heirloom tablecloths. One of her favorite traditions was her annual Christmas party, where her nieces and nephews decorated her tree while enjoying a meal she prepared, always served on her fine china and crystal.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Ronald Shargo; sisters, Beverly Strines and Carol Boughner; nieces, Patricia, Tracy and Deborah Boughner; and her great-nephews, Johnathan Watters and Kaden Shargo Gump.

She is survived by a sister, Donna Dixon of Struthers; two brothers, John (Pam) Shargo of Boardman and Richard (Kathy Depizzo) Shargo of Struthers; close cousin, Georgene Hockey; nieces and nephews, Tina Tinkey, Tammy Baker, John W. Shargo, Robert Boughner, Brian Boughner, Elizabeth Solomon, Olen Boughner, Dina Watters, Jayme Schulick, Garrett Dixon, Megan Shargo, Sherry Martin, Tina Shargo and Heather Shargo; 26 great-nieces and nephews; and 15 great-great nieces and nephews.

Barb could keep you laughing with her quick, sarcastic, and one-of-a-kind remarks, as well as the comical expressions she would make. She had a deep appreciation for beauty, luxury and the finer things in life, yet remained selfless and caring, always putting her family first. Barb was amazing, kind, loving, strong and independent, and she will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.
