Robert S. Thompson 1923-2025
MINERAL RIDGE — Robert S. Thompson, 102, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, at Hospice House in Poland.
Robert was born in Butler County, Pa. Robert’s parents, Clair and Margaret Thompson, moved to Warren when Robert was 2 years old. When Robert was 12, the family moved to Mineral Ridge. Robert went to Mineral Ridge High School and was a four-year letterman. He played baseball, basketball and football. In 1943, Robert graduated from high school and was a 1943 Golden Gloves Champion of Trumbull County. Later, Robert also won a boxing tournament at the military base in Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
On May 1, 1943, Robert joined the United States Marine Corps. Robert was in the 3rd Division in the Pacific in World War II. He was in the 5 Battles Campaign which won a Presidential Citation. He came home in 1945 and married the love of his life, Marguerite Stahl. They had three children, Susan Barney of Mineral Ridge (Robert), and Robert Thompson Jr. and Allison Blau of North Carolina (Michael). They were also blessed with three grandchildren, including their surviving granddaughter, Sharon Roberts of North Carolina (Pete).
Robert was predeceased by his wife, Marguerite, and his son, Bobby, and his family.
Robert was a founder of the Mineral Ridge Fire Department.
Robert loved golf, gardening, woodworking and cooking.
The family will receive relatives and friends 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, at Lane Funeral Homes, Mineral Ridge Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank First Light Homecare, and special thanks to Brenda, Randi, Joe, Greg and Mike, and all the neighbors and friends who added years to his life.
