Peter P. Getch 1948-2025

BOARDMAN — Peter P. “Dedo” Getch, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born in Youngstown, Peter was a proud graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, Class of 1966, and he earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Youngstown State University in 1971.

Peter’s career flourished as a regional sales manager for the Lietz Co. His passion for technology and gadgets was evident throughout his life; he was the first in his neighborhood to own a VCR in 1977, filled with bootleg copies of movies like “Star Wars.” His satellite TV setup had two dishes, resembling a NASA launch site. His enthusiasm for the latest advancements in tech was matched only by his love for ordering from Amazon, always eager to try the newest gear.

Beyond his professional achievements, Peter was a devoted sports enthusiast. He found joy in golfing, a passion he eagerly shared with his sons, and even embraced the role of mentor to his nephew Chad, teaching them all the nuances of the game. His love for sports extended to baseball and hockey, and he was particularly fond of The Weather Channel, having humorously burned its logo into his screen from frequent viewing.

Peter’s playful spirit shone through in his voice talent, bringing laughter to his loved ones with his uncanny impressions of characters from the Three Stooges to Inspector Clouseau from the “Pink Panther” movies. Family meant the world to him, and he took immense pride in his sons and their accomplishments in sports and life.

Peter is survived by his sons, Steven (Laura) Getch of Cuyahoga Falls and Richard (Jolene) Getch of Rochester, Pa.; his grandchildren, Finley, Abigail and Griffin Getch; his brothers, Valerian “Skip” (Lynne) Getch of Delray Beach, Florida, Thomas (Trish) Getch of San Diego, California, and Richard (Carol) Getch of Carmel, Indiana; and his sister, Cynthia Getch of Delta, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Valerian and June Ellinger Getch; his beloved wife, whom he missed dearly, Dorothy Jean “Baba” Desmond Getch, whom he married July 15, 1967, and who passed away July 25, 2014; and a brother, Kenneth Getch.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Peter’s niece, Christine Russo, for the exceptional nursing care and compassion she provided throughout the final years of his life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in his honor at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, at St. Blaise Parish-Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Prior to the service, calling hours will take place 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave.

Following Mass, Peter will be laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Akron Children’s NICU at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, 8401 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
