Mary T. Stryffeler

AUSTINTOWN – Mary Teresa Stryffeler, 92, passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, with her husband of 69 years, Dave, at her side.

She was born May 24, 1933, in Youngstown, to Irish immigrants Edward J. Murphy and Margaret McGinty Murphy.

Teresa was raised in the Catholic faith at St. Dominic Church, where she also attended elementary school. She was a graduate of Ursuline High School and later earned her nursing degree from Trumbull Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

Dedicating over 40 years to the nursing profession, Teresa served patients at Northside Hospital and Park Vista Home.

Through mutual cousins, Teresa met her husband, Dave, of North Jackson, and the couple married April 14, 1956, while Dave was completing his career as an officer in the United States Coast Guard. In 1958, they settled in Austintown, raising their seven children. Teresa believed that one of her proudest accomplishments was that all seven of her children graduated from college.

As a devoted mother and grandmother, Teresa was always present as a sports mom, Scouts mom, 4-H mom and later, as a grandmother – always available with love and support. She treasured time spent with her family, especially during their annual beach vacations, creating lasting memories for her children and grandchildren.

Teresa was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and a longtime member of the Youngstown Saxon Club, where she enjoyed playing bocce alongside her husband and friends. Known for her beautiful spirit, Teresa had a special gift for making all feel welcomed and loved.

Teresa was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Edward, Francis and Bob; and her sister, Peggy Loney.

She is survived by her husband, Dave; her sons, Harry (Laura), Mickey (Francine), Davey (Colleen) and Dan (Elizabeth); her daughters, Peggy (Bob), Tina (Dan) and Ellen (Joe); and #8 Donny (Nicole) Dobrindt. She also leaves behind a cherished legacy of 28 grandchildren, including their spouses, and 25 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Theresa Murphy Riordan and Jean Murphy.
