Judith Taylor-Rubino 1941-2025

SALEM — Judith “Judy” Ann Taylor-Rubino, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, at Covington Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in East Palestine, following a courageous battle with bladder cancer.

Born Nov. 10, 1941, in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Robert Gaver and Dorothy Smith Gaver-Altomare-Schmitt.

Judy worked from a young age, beginning at Heck’s Restaurant and later at J & E Records. For almost three decades, she served as secretary / co-owner for her husband’s Goodyear franchise stores in Columbiana and Salem. She also operated a successful house cleaning business in her later years.

Judy enjoyed traveling the U.S. by motorhome, skiing in the Western mountains, horseback riding along Beaver Creek Trail and caring for the many pets her household welcomed. In the 1980s, she and her family fostered 26 babies through Catholic Charities, later adopting three children.

She loved concerts — especially Cher — shopping, movies, reading and spending time with her granddaughters. Known for her humor, style and spirited personality, Judy was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend.

She was a longtime member of St. Jude Parish.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Americo Altomare; husbands, John Robert Taylor and Anthony Edward Rubino Sr.; brother, Anthony Altomare; and son, David Anthony Taylor.

Judy is survived by her daughters, Anne M. (Thomas Torkelson) Taylor and Melissa A. Taylor; her son, Michael B. Taylor; four granddaughters; her sisters, Joanne Booksing, Valerie Aitken and Pamela Barkley; cousin, Nancy Altomare; extended family; her companion, Mark Janowiak; and many, many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, at St. Jude Parish, Columbiana, with the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon will be held after Mass.

Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. in New Waterford Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Focus Hippotherapy, 6140 Century Blvd., Canfield, or Walking with Moms in Need (Northeast Ohio Catholic Diocese of Youngstown).
