Jerome M. Murphy 1941-2025

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — Jerome Martin Murphy passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, in the comfort of his home.

Jerry was born Sept. 10, 1941, the only child of Martin and Dorothy Mihalik Murphy in Youngstown.

He graduated from South High School in 1959. He attended Youngstown State University, the University of Notre Dame and the University of Miami.

Jerry was employed as a fireman with the City of Miami Fire Department, retiring after 36 years. Jerry became a Certified USTA Pro teaching out of Kennedy Park-Maxwell Tennis Center in Pembroke Pines. He also became a licensed fly fishing guide, fishing out of Key Biscayne and Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo. He was featured in many fishing magazines and fishing shows.

Jerry and his wife were devoted Catholics and parishioners of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Davie, Florida. Jerry also was the secretary of the committee of Broward County Right To Life Organization, a position he was proud to hold.

Jerry married his wife, Margaret Sandine Murphy, on May 4, 1963, at St. Patrick Church in Youngstown; they celebrated 62 years of a very happy marriage. They raised three beautiful daughters with love and pride.

Jerry leaves his beloved wife, Margie; his daughters, Christine Murphy Foltz (Tim), Joanne Murphy Lopez (Martin) and Erin Michelle Kristova; grandchildren, Ryan Murphy Fussner, Megan Fussner Mulles (Kevin) and Monica Fussner, also, Josie, Sean and Austin Lopez; great-grandchildren, Colton and Charlotte Fussner; and his sisters-in law, Mary Ann Huesken, Veronica (Robert) Morell, Sandra Kertis and Theresa Leaver.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Martin “Bud” and Dorothy Murphy; his in-laws, Dominic and Margaret Sandine; and brothers-in-law, James Eckman Sr., Joseph Kertis II and James Huesken.

Calling hours will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec.10, 2025, at Boyd-Panciera Family Funeral Home, 1600 N. University Drive, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, by the Rev. Fr. Biju Vells, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 7450 Stirling Road, Hollywood, FL 33024.
