Jay D. Smith 1963-2025
SALEM — With great sadness, the family of Jay Dion Smith announce the passing of a loving husband, father and papa on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at his home in Salem.
He was born July 3, 1963, in Youngstown, the son of Evelyn Smith and the late Ronald Smith. Jay was a graduate of South Range High School and the Culinary Institute of America.
Anyone who knew Jay knew his passions ran deep. Rock and roll, cooking, sports and the outdoors were just a few, and he shared each one wholeheartedly with his family and friends. As a chef, Jay poured his creativity and heart into his work with Naffah Hospitality. His goofy sense of humor with quick jokes and easy laugh, added a lightness that made time with him unforgettable. His kindness made people feel loved, appreciated and truly welcomed.
Jay is survived by his loving family and all who loved him, his wife, Sandy; his two children, Jenna and Trevor; his grandsons, Luka and Jaxon; mother, Evelyn; and siblings, Jackie, Jim, Jeff, Jerry and Joel.
A celebration of life will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, at First Methodist Church, 244 S. Broadway Ave., Salem. A dinner will follow at 6 p.m. at the Hampton Inn located at 6690 Ironwood Blvd., Canfield.
May he rest easy, always cheering for the Browns.
