Edwin S. Smith 1946-2025

BOARDMAN — Edwin S. Smith, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, at Masternick Memorial.

Edwin was born April 16, 1946, in Cincinnati, a son of the late Spencer and Mabel Forrer Smith. He graduated from South High School in 1964 and earned an associate degree from Penn-Ohio College. He worked as a clerk for Standard Slag Company, which later became Lafarge.

His faith was at the center of everything he did. He was a devoted Christian, serving as an elder, deacon and treasurer, approaching each role with humility and care. One of his greatest joys was bringing communion to homebound parishioners, offering prayer, comfort and a comforting presence. His spiritual life wasn’t something he just practiced on Sundays — it guided his life.

He enjoyed an active life playing softball for his workplace and the church. He especially loved playing tennis with his wife and friends. He also loved walking the neighborhood, greeting neighbors with a friendly word and cheering on his grandchildren at their many events. At home, he took great pride in keeping the yard in perfect order, making sure every line in the grass was perfectly straight. He also handled the household financials and repairs with steady hands and the same quiet dedication that shaped every part of his life.

Edwin leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Lois (Doria) Smith, whom he married Dec. 12, 1969; his children, Stephen (Amy) Smith, Bradley (Mary) Smith and Stacia (John Jadlocki) Smith; his grandchildren, Spencer, Reagan, Sullivan, Tea and Sloane Smith; his siblings, Donald (Linda) Smith, Elaine (O’Quin) Kelly and Daniel (Rhonda) Smith; his sister-in-law, Ivalee Smith; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Smith.

Friends and family will be received 10 to 11:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman, followed immediately by a funeral service beginning at noon. He will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Scott Agnew, Dr. Charles Wilkins and the staff of Akeso Hospice for their compassionate care of Edwin in his time of need.

In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in his honor.
