Alice D. Donahue 1923-2025
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Alice Duer Doughton Donahue died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025.
Alice was born in 1923 in Hubbard. After graduating from high school in 1941, she and several of her sorority sisters left Youngstown College in 1942 to take jobs in support of the war effort.
Alice worked in a tank factory, GATX in Masury, as a stenographer.
After the war, Alice married Lt. Cmdr. Philip A. Donahue. They had a son, Thomas Duer Donahue. Both predeceased her, as did her older brother, Dr. Philip Tedford Doughten.
Alice raised her family in northern New Jersey. She was active in many organizations. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution; the Women’s Propeller Club of the Port of New York; a board of education member of the John Brown School Ship, New York City; and a member of Martin Downs Country Club.
Although she loved her travels, she viewed her greatest achievement as helping to build the Library in Palm City, Florida, in 1993, which named a meeting room in her honor.
Alice loved traveling throughout her life, managing to visit the seven continents. She particularly loved visiting Antarctica. She also enjoyed golfing and was an avid bridge player throughout her life.
