William P. Carson 1937-2025

POLAND — William Preston “Bill” Carson, 87, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Nov. 3, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born Dec. 11, 1937, in Donora, Pa., a son of the late James and Amelia Laub Carson.

He graduated from Donora High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

Bill began his career as an insurance agent with Prudential Financial, where he worked for three years, followed by 20 years with Equitable Life Insurance. He then joined Mutual of America Life Insurance, retiring in 1997, after another 15 years of dedicated service.

A man of strong faith, Bill was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church in Youngstown until its closing, after which he joined Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was active in the choir.

A talented trombone player, he shared his gift for music with several local bands, including the Angelo Lacivita Orchestra, the Girard Dixieland Band, the Girard Community Band and the Carmen Mico Orchestra. Bill even performed alongside several Hollywood celebrities. He was a proud member of the American Federation of Musicians and a dedicated Freemason.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Cathy A. Carson of Poland, with whom he made his home; his son, James P. (Peggy) Carson of Hudson; four grandchildren, Casey (Dan) Tebbutt, Carmen (Cameron) Lodge, Will Carson, and Callie Metzger and her fiance, Steven Courts; and his sister, Trudy Sales of New York, New York.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Judith A. George Carson, whom he married April 11, 1959, and who passed away Aug. 10, 2025; and by his brother-in-law, Soupy Sales.

Family and friends may call 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, Boardman. A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Adam Rodgers officiating.

Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 119 Stadium Drive, Boardman, OH 44512, in memory of Bill.

Bill’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Buckeye Hospice for the love, care and support they provided to Bill and his family.
