Richard L. Scott 1937-2025
STRUTHERS — Richard L. Scott, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
Richard was born Dec. 16, 1937, the son of Henrietta and Harold Wood. He was a proud 1955 graduate of South High in Youngstown.
As a young man, Richard began his career at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube, where he worked until its closure in 1978. He then went on to serve as health director, until his retirement, in the City of Struthers.
Richard was an avid fan of Ohio sports, cheering faithfully for the Cleveland Browns, The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Guardians. He enjoyed playing cards, board games with his grandchildren and trips to casinos in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and Hollywood.
On June 25, 1988, Richard married Patricia Scott, with whom he shared 37 wonderful years; together, they traveled cross country, visited family and especially cherished time spent in California, with his brother Don Scott and wife, Cathy. Their adventures created lasting memories filled with joy and companionship.
Richard was a devoted father and grandfather, finding his greatest happiness in family gatherings and simple pleasures like working on 1,000-piece puzzles, playing Parcheesi and keeping his mind sharp with Sudoku.
His grandchildren, Christina Scott-Billingsley (Aaron), Rachel Mariotti, Alexis Pope (Collin), Lauren Burgess, Ben Wilson, Liam Wilson and Ryan Wilson, were a source of pride and joy. He also delighted in his great-granddaughter, Iris, and great-grandsons, Raylan and Asher Scott of North Dakota, whom he also leaves behind.
Richard was a remarkable man whose love knew no bounds. He embraced the beauty of a blended family, choosing each of his children with an open heart and unwavering commitment. He taught us that family is defined by love, not just blood, and showed us the true meaning of acceptance.
He leaves behind his wife, Patricia; his children, Don Scott (Teresa) of North Dakota, Lisa Mariotti (Mark) of Struthers, Heather Shaner (Brian), also of Struthers, and Scott Wilson (Amy) of Austintown. Richard’s love and guidance will remain with them always.
Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Scott; his brother, Don Scott; and his parents.
Richard will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His legacy of kindness, devotion and family traditions will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, for the compassionate care they provided during Richard’s extended stay.
Private services were held for the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.
Family and friends are encouraged to offer prayers for the family and support by visiting the Book of Memories at www.rossifunerals.com.
