Margaret H. Swansiger 1933-2025

BOARDMAN — Margaret H. Swansiger, 92, died on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Margaret was born in Youngstown, daughter of the late Clement and Pauline Klein Smreck.

She was a graduate of Wilson High School and worked for many years as a salesclerk for Strouss Department Store.

She was a member at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish-St. Matthias Church.

Margaret enjoyed spending time with family and visiting her neighbors who were so kind and helpful to her. She also belonged to the Byzantine Social Club and Altar and Rosary at Infant Jesus of Prague Byzantine Church in Boardman.

Margaret is survived by three stepchildren, Mark (Sandee) Swansiger of New Wilmington, Pa., Laurie (Mike) Herceg of Cleveland and Paul (Alorah) Swansiger of New Middletown; her sister, Tillie Chachko; and stepgrandchildren, James and Greg Herceg, and Kara and Sam Swansiger; and many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and -nephews; along with many friends at Infant Jesus of Prague Byzantine Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve J. Swansiger, whom she married in 1977, and who passed away in 1995; two sisters, Martha Barnes and Magdaline Koziel; and a brother, Clement (Jeff) Smreck.

Friends will be received 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish-St. Matthias Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., also at the church.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.

There is no procession to the cemetery.

Arrangements are by Kirila Funeral Home, Inc. in Struthers.
