Joseph Martin 1945-2025
GIRARD — Joseph Martin passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, at Heritage Manor.
He was born June 12, 1945, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph J. Martin and Frances Vitikas Martin.
He was a 1963 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and received a degree in computer science from Youngstown State University.
He served in the Air Force and the Army Reserve.
Joe had a long career as an analyst / programmer at the City of Youngstown Water Department.
He married Linda Hoefert, his lifelong love, on March 9, 1994, and they were together until her passing in 2011.
He leaves his sister, Carolyn (Sam) Luse of Chandler, Arizona; his brother, Leonard (Joyce) Martin of North Jackson; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of longtime friends.
Joe was a supporter of Habitat for Humanity, local NPR stations and several area food banks. For many years, he was an avid golfer. Joe was also known for his talent in the kitchen. Among many traditions he cherished, he and Linda held a beloved annual Mexican dinner party that stood out as a highlight for friends and family — an evening filled with crowds, laughter and the food he took such pride in preparing.
Joseph’s legacy is one of service, integrity and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
