John P. Krebs 1935-2025

HERMITAGE, Pa. — John P. Krebs passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, at St. John XXIII Home in Hermitage, where he had resided for the past five months. He was 90.

Born March 29, 1935, in Cleveland, he was the son of Clarence and Paula Vavrick Krebs. John attended Gesu School in University Heights and was a graduate of Benedictine High School in Cleveland. He continued his education at John Carroll University in University Heights, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree.

John proudly served his country and is a veteran of the United States Navy.

On June 25, 1960, John married the love of his life, Bernice Ohlin, in New Middletown. Together, they shared a beautiful marriage filled with 65 years of family, adventure and devotion.

John spent his career in the oil industry, working as a salesman and petroleum engineer. He was employed by ARCO, Perrine Oils, Truck World and O & P Oil. After retiring from the oil business, he enjoyed a second career as a bus driver for the West Middlesex School District, a role he cherished for the daily interactions with students and the school community.

John was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and lector. He was also a member of the American Society of Lubricating Engineers, the Sharon Kiwanis Club and the Pymatuning Century Club.

An avid outdoorsman and lover of the water, John treasured time spent sailing on Pymatuning Lake, the Great Lakes and the Chesapeake Bay. His beach house in Oak Island, North Carolina, became a beloved gathering place for children, grandchildren and friends. He also took great joy in driving his Austin Healey alongside his wife, Bernice, and sharing countless memories at the family hunting camp in Highland Corners, Pa.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by four children, Sally McGonigle (Brad) of Hermitage, Pa.; Lisa Jackson (Doug) of Topsail Beach, North Carolina; John Krebs Jr. (Jonelle) of Chesapeake, Virginia; and Eric Krebs (Laura) of Watertown, New York; 10 grandchildren, Shawn Hankinson (Paige) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Brady Hankinson (Taylor) of Hampstead, North Carolina; Tyler Hankinson (Alicia) of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina; Bradley McGonigle IV (fiancee, Whitley McEachern) of Atlanta, Georgia; John McGonigle of Crested Butte, Colorado; Jenna Krebs of Beaver Creek; Julie and John Krebs of Chesapeake, Virginia; and Noel and Noah Krebs of Watertown, New York; and four great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Kennedy, Harper and Lucas Hankinson.

He is also survived by a sister, Nan Krebs of Aurora; two brothers-in-law, David Ohlin of Petersburg; and Tom (Kathy) Ohlin of Florence, Kentucky; as well as several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Louis and Pauline Ohlin, and a sister-in-law, Betsy Ohlin.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of St. John XXIII and Helping Hands Hospice for their kindness and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage, Pa., with the Rev. John Miller and the Rev. Glenn Whitman concelebrating.

Immediately following Mass, military honors will be rendered by the Wheatland AL and West Middlesex VFW Honor Guard.
