John F. Meyers 1938-2025

DIAMOND — John F. “Jay” Meyers, 87, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, Nov. 7, 2025, at his residence.

Jay, as he was affectionately known, was born Jan. 4, 1938, in Connellsville, Pa., a son of Roy and Minnie Eiford Meyers.

He spent most of his childhood in Connellsville and was a 1956 graduate of Connellsville High School. After high school, Jay worked several jobs before being hired by Fisher Body in Pittsburgh. When General Motors opened its plant in Lordstown, he applied and, after being hired, moved his family to Ohio, where he worked for more than 30 years, only missing three days of work in that time. He always said he would retire at 55, and he did just that in 1993.

Jay married the former Carol A. Snyder on Jan. 23, 1965. Together they shared 60 years of marriage and many happy memories. She survives him.

Before anything else, Jay put family first. He loved nothing more than being at home with his wife, sharing endless memories of all the traveling they did together after he retired.

He was a dedicated sports fan and enjoyed cheering on the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians. Jay also liked watching bowling matches on television and was an avid car enthusiast, from racing and winning trophies in his youth, car shows and swap meets, and researching and learning the history of different vehicles in his stacks of Hemmings car magazines.

Jay was a simple man and enjoyed the simple things in life. He never took anything too seriously and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand, expecting nothing in return except for maybe a Coke or Pepsi, or, as he got older, maybe a Sprite or 7-UP, because too much caffeine kept him awake at night. He never indulged in drinking or smoking, always reminding us “that stuff will kill ya.”

Besides his wife, Jay is survived by his three children, of whom he was especially proud, John D. (Barbara) Meyers of North Jackson, Craig Meyers of Diamond and Angela (Craig) Cardinal of The Villages, Florida. He was also blessed with five beloved granddaughters, Samantha (John Wayne) Carroll, Miranda (Austin) McCalip, Sydney Bothwell, Jordan Bothwell and Jessica Meyers; and two great-grandsons, Llewyn and Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, at Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown.

Friends may call 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jay will be laid to rest in Eckis Cemetery, Milton Township.
