J. Thomas Caputo 1961-2025

BOARDMAN — J. Thomas Caputo passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, at the age of 64.

He was born Jan. 21, 1961, in Youngstown, a son of the late John J. Caputo and Mary Gail Stimmer Caputo.

Tom was a 1979 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and attended Youngstown State University. For 17 years, he was the owner of Total Cleaning Services.

Tom was deeply passionate about coaching. He took great joy in coaching his son’s teams, spanning from Little League baseball to youth basketball, and he continued to coach them through grade school and high school basketball. His love for basketball was most evident during his time as a coach at Cardinal Mooney, his alma mater, where he took pride in enhancing the abilities of his players.

Family was central to Tom’s life. He cherished his two sons and was proud of their accomplishments. The highlight of his life was undoubtedly his grandsons, and taking care of Caden softened his demeanor.

Tom loved his yearly camping trips to Cook Forest State Park with his family. He was a proud Buckeye and a loyal Cleveland Browns fan. He told jokes and pulled pranks. He was the life of the party and made everyone around him smile.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kimberly Matteson Caputo, whom he married Aug. 17, 1985; sons, Craig (Amanda) Caputo of Canfield and Doug Caputo of Pittsburgh; sister, Kathleen (Fred) Palumbo of Boardman; grandsons, Caden and Mason Caputo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701 Starr’s Centre Drive.

Prayers will be 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish-St. Charles Borromeo Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom’s memory may be made to Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.
