George R. Goynes 1927-2025

LAKE MILTON — George Robert “Bob” Goynes, 98, passed away peacefully into eternal rest, Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, at his son’s residence, with his family by his side.

He was born Nov. 7, 1927, in Pricetown, the son of the late Gay Howard Goynes and Mary Adeline Besse Goynes.

George married the love of his life, Lucille L. Sickle, on July 30, 1950, and they enjoyed 72 years of marriage together until her passing on April 30, 2023.

He served his country faithfully during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1945 to 1947 and returned and lived in Lake Milton for most of his life.

He worked at Packard Electric in Warren as a towmotor driver for 34 years, retiring in 1982.

George was a member of Lake Milton American Legion Post 737. He loved deer hunting, camping, riding bicycles and watching NASCAR, especially his favorite driver, #88, Dale Earnhardt Jr.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille; a daughter, Deborah Champion; his sister, Ruth Goynes; and two brothers, Gene and Glenn Goynes.

Memories of George will be carried on by his loving family: his son, Terry (Julie) Goynes of Austintown; and seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where a funeral service will follow at noon. George will be laid to rest in Palmyra West Cemetery, Diamond.
